“If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says GOD, “I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me. Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party. I’ll give you a long life, give you a long drink of salvation!”
Psalm 91:14 MSG
When COVID comes a’ knockin’
Knocking at your door
What do you say? What do you do?
Do you cry? Do you scream?
Do you panic, do you fear?
Do your thoughts spin out of control? Do you get lost in despair?
Or do you wish you’d wake up to discover that it was just a bad dream?
The thought of getting sick with the dreadful virus is scary
Whether it’s you or your loved ones that get affected or infected
It doesn’t matter
You still suffer…
You’ve watched the news, you’ve read the reports
You’ve seen and heard of many people dying from this dreaded disease
Some of them were close to you
It’s distressing…
You’ve attended more wakes and funerals than you care to remember
Both virtually and in person
And you hope and pray that you’re not next
It’s a legitimate concern…
So, when COVID comes a’ knockin’
Knockin’ at your door
You hope and pray
You isolate and stay
You stay away, away in your bed
You do everything to stop the spread
You stay away from many people, from many places
From many things you once did
For a while, at least…
Until you or your loved ones get better
You eat good food, take your vitamins
Especially lots of C and D
You drink hot soup, you drink hot tea
All kinds of herbal tea
You drink lots of water, you get lots sleep
You relax, you read, and you binge watch TV
You get some sunshine, you get some exercise
You get some fresh air
Purify…
You get humidified air
You do steam inhalations
Aromatic diffusions of peppermint and Eucalyptus, essential oils
Menthol is your new best friend
You take your medicine
You wear your mask
You do the necessary
You stay on task
You clean and sanitize everywhere
Your hands, your body, your clothes,
Your doorknobs, your surfaces,
Your sheets, of course
You leave no stone unturned
You do everything you can
To stay or get well, to get strong
To get healthy and stay strong in body, mind and spirit
Perhaps you’ve never worked as hard before
To stay alive or to keep yourself or your loved ones healthy and safe
Perhaps you’ve never prayed as hard before either
Or maybe it’s been a while…
Maybe it’s been a while since you got down on your knees
To truly intercede
Not only for the health and safety of your own family
But for others’ as well
Your prayers become more fervent
Who else can calm your fears?
You remember that Jesus sweat
Great drops of blood for tears
Now…
You can’t get enough of the Word
As you search to find some comfort
And for peace to flood your soul
You hope and pray to be heard
As you worship God for real
Finally…
You trust, and you obey
You sacrifice the praise that you’d once withheld
And you draw nearer to God
Because you already know that God Is…
There…
You know that God is real
And that He is faithful still
Even when you were not
You know that God is good
All the time…
God is loving and forgiving too
And you know that God is able
Even more than able
To save, to heal
Deliver…
You know you need God now
Now more than ever
To breathe, to live, to love
To see another day
Please…
You seek help from above
As you lift your eyes to the hills
Looking to the source and strength of your life
You pray God makes all well
When COVID comes a’knockin’
Knockin’ at your door
What do you say? What do you do?
You do all you can do
You do all you should do
You put your trust in God
And you say thank you
Thank you?
Yes, thank you…
You say thank you for the awakening
That you need to take care
Not just in times of crisis
But all throughout the year
You say thank you God for Your promise
Of healing and of hope
For body, soul, and spirit
For helping you to cope
You say thank you for the time you have
To rest, repose, reflect
To think of all His goodness
Of just how much you’re blessed
You say thank you God for health, for life
Oh, what priceless gifts
You say thank you God for each new day
And for the chance to live it
