What is Your Prayer?

God Is Faithful

“In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words;” –Roman 8:26

I woke up early this morning and did my devotion from “Jesus Calling” by Sarah Young. I read through the message, looked up the scriptures, thanked the Lord, and said “Amen”. Sometimes, I would pray for longer and spend a good while praising and worshiping God. But this quick, hit-it and quit-it routine had, lately, become my daily routine before I go about my day. Nevertheless, God is faithful, and each day’s message always seems to speak to me. A few times, I would praise and worship God, and pray before I opened the devotion book, and then when I’d read it, I would be astounded that the message was an answer to the prayer that I just prayed.

I Know, But I, Sometimes, Forget

Even though I have head knowledge that God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent, and have accepted Jesus Christ into my heart, I sometimes forget how close God is to me. And God reminds me that He knows every thought before I think it, that He is aware of every word before I say it, and that He is even closer than the air that I breathe. (See Psalm 139:1-4) Today, God reminded me that He is the “Eternal I AM”, that He lives in me, and that He is training me to be aware of Him at all times.

The Holy Spirit Sang a Prayer

Well, right after I finished my quick daily ritual, I didn’t wait or linger in His presence. Still sleepy, I ran back into my bed to catch some more zzz’s before I would have to get up and get ready for church. As I lay there between sleep and wake, the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit sang a prayer to my heart. That song lifted my spirit this morning and became my prayer and song all around the house and in the shower, as I prepared for service. What was the prayer?

It was “Bless Me (Prayer of Jabez)” by Donald Lawrence and the Tri-City Singers. Want to hear me sing it? Check out my brief rendition here.

I was so happy that the Holy Spirit sang to me, and even more moved when I went to church and we sang “Take it to the Lord in Prayer” by Patrick Lundy and the Ministers of Music.

Sometimes, You Just Don’t Know

Sometimes, you may not know what to pray or how to pray, but the Lord knows what you need before you even ask and will even give you the words to say. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, His Holy Spirit lives in you and is intimately acquainted with all your ways. There is nothing hidden from Him, no dreams or desires that He is not aware of; He knows everything about you, even your thoughts and unspoken prayers.

So, what is your prayer today?
